Pullman Fight Night: Round 3 A Success!

March 23, 2011

The Brothers of Omicron Psi organized their third annual charity boxing event, Pullman Fight Night. On Friday March 4th Pullman Fight Night showcased 10 amateur bouts for over 300 attendees. In order to provide the audience with a complete amateur boxing experience, the chapter rented out a local gym and undertook the daunting task of organizing a fully sanctioned USA Boxing event. Over three months of hard work, brothers lined up sponsors, food vendors, raffle items, a ring, officials, a doctor, and most importantly, fighters. The event was a success and raised $650 for St Jude Children’s Research Hospital. We would like to thank our event sponsor: The Man Shop, and the other local individuals/businesses who contributed: The Coug, Paradise Creek Brewery, Bad Pandas, Munchy’Z, WSU Alumni Association, The Bookie, La Casa Lopez, South Fork, Stubblefields, The Black Cypress, Zeppoz, Cafe Moro, and more!

DSP Makes a Difference!

October 27, 2010

Members of Delta Sigma Pi woke up bright and early on October 23rd to plant trees along the river behind the bus barn. Make a Difference Day is a national community service event created by USA Weekend to get people involved in their communities. Delta Sigma Pi chapters all over the country participate each year with the Omicron Psi chapter being no exception. Dedicated members took 5 hours out of their Saturday morning for the activity and despite the weather and being tired they managed to have a great time giving back to the community and bonding.

Delta Sigma Pi Omicron Psi Chapter teamed up with the Vietnamese Students Association of Washington State University to host “Pullman Fight Night,” an official amateur boxing event.  This was a fundraising and philanthropy event with 100% of the total $1200 profit made going to the Omicron Psi Chapter and the Vietnamese Students Association.  Omicron Psi then donated 20% of the profits to VietHope, where the money will go to help cover the education costs for students in Vietnam.

It is estimated that 450 people showed up for the event, making it a huge success.   Please give a special thank you to our sponsors:  Campus Commons, Bob’s Corner Market, and Hero’s and Sports for their donations.  Additionally, thank you to Anthony Nguyen and Ben Landry for their dedication in coordinating this event and all of the other volunteers for making this possible.  It was a huge success and has so far been our most profitable fundraising event as a chapter.  We are also looking forward to coordinating more activities with the Vietnamese Students Association in the future.

Nine brothers attended the first ever community service event with Habitat for Humanity in Spokane, WA. Members arrived on site at 12:30 p.m. and left Spokane around 5 p.m. After having lunch in downtown Spokane, members arrived at the first work site. Members worked to bring the landscaping around the homes up to code by lowering and leveling the sod placed around it.

After completing the landscaping work, Alumnus Ben Doornink joined brothers at the next site to help with the construction of window frames. The trip finished with a quick meal at Northern Lights.

Casino Time at Bishop Place Senior Living Center

September 22, 2007

Bishop PlaceMembers of Deltasig spent time on Saturday afternoon hosting a Casino Social for the local residents of Bishop Place Senior Living Center. Both members and residents had a great time playing BINGO, Blackjack, and Poker. A raffle was also held in which several residents won Cougar memorabilia, which they wore right after while watching the Cougar game on television. Delta Sigma Pi hopes to continue this relationship with Bishop Place and have an even better event next time. Ideas for improvement include bigger and better prizes from local sponsors and a Texas Hold ‘em tournament.
