Final Spring Update: Seattle Trip

May 16, 2010

Hey guys and gals, it’s your friendly neighborhood Vice President of Alumni Relations, Jordan Comar, here for one last update before sir Alex Fischer steps in and takes the reins!

On the weekend of April 16th-18th, our chapter took a trip over to the Settle area. The trip was organized and executed by our VP of Alumni Relations (ME!). On Friday, we took a tour of Boeing’s Renton 737 Production Factory. It was an amazing experience seeing the production line up close in addition to understanding what it takes to assemble an aircraft in the short amount of time that Boeing does. After the Boeing tour, we went to a Seattle Mariners baseball game where we met up with a few alumni from our own chapter (Anne Zaremba, Ben Landry, and Rich Olson); afterwards we went to Dicks  Burgers for dinner. The next day we toured Pan Pacific Hotel which was hosted by Joe Speer (also an alumni of the chapter). Joe did a great job answering all of our questions and showing us around the hotel and its neighboring facilities! Later that night we went attended a Networking Dinner located at BJ’s Restaurant & Brewery at the South Center Mall in Tukwila. We were able to network with many alumni of the chapter as well as the fraternity in addition to Ashley Comar (a marketer for the city of Tukwila & surrounding cities), Joe and Lori Riordan (Joe is an entrepreneur who started his own seafood distribution company and Lori is the city attorney for Bellevue) and the accountant, Samantha Simons. Thank you all very much for joining us at dinner! Overall, the trip was an absolute blast and we hope to make it an annual event so that the alumni in the Seattle area can easily interact with the chapter every year!

Well kids, as I said earlier, this is my last update before Alex Fischer takes over as the new VP of Alumni Relations. It was an incredible ride, thank you for all the memories and experiences! Jordan Comar, OUT!

Welcome Zeta Class!

April 28, 2010

For this semester we had 9 pledges intiated into the fraternity. During the pledging process the pledges put on a few events for the fraternity. These events included a professional event where an associate from the Carson came into chapter and taught proper Resumé and Cover Letter techniques, structures, and formats that businesses look for in a quality applicant. Another event the pledge class hosted was an ‘Around the World’ social where members were encouraged to cook and bring dishes from cultures all around the world. Now, without further ado, we are absolutely delighted to welcome the new initiates of Zeta class!

Our Vice President of Community Service, Jessica Curtin, and the American Red Cross put on a magnificent Blood Drive in the Center for Undergraduate Education (CUE) on February 25th. There were 21 first time donors, 39 total donors, and we collected 34 units of blood which was 136% of our 25 unit goal! We would like to thank all the donors who participated in addition the American Red Cross who helped put on the event and collected the blood, thank you all very much!

Spring Updates: Spokane Business Trip!

April 14, 2010

The chapter took a trip over to Spokane, Washington for the last weekend in January. We took and fun and informative tour of Dryfly Distillery and Northern Lights Brewery. We learned about the purification, aging, and other process involved in making their whiskey, vodka, and gin. Additionally, our own Vice President of Professional Activities, Shannon Aree, set up a lovely networking dinner at Uno Tapas Lounge where we were joined by a few alumni and business professionals. Lastly, we went up to Schweitzer Mountain Resort where we talked to the marketing director, Dave Kulis, to learn about some of the challenges and strategies involved with marketing for a large mountain resort (in addition to hitting a few runs of skiing and snowboarding)! Ultimately, the trip was substantially interesting, fun, and a great overall bonding experience. We would like to thank the alumni who joined us at the networking dinner: Brian Gillespie, Jeff Brown, and Cody Lee.

Alumni Tailgate 09

November 11, 2009

First and foremost,

I would like to thank everyone who attended the DSP Alumni Tailgating Event on Homecoming weekend! The turnout was incredible! We had about 20 current members, 6 pledges, 6 alumni, and 7 guests! There were hot dogs, cheeseburgers, and beverages provided for all who attended. I would also like to give a big thanks to all the alumni who made the trip out to Pullman: Anne Zaremba, Lyle Lewin, Rich Olson, Cody Lee, Jeff Brown, and Jason Bruni! No need to be sad if you couldn’t make it out for this event because there will be many more opportunities in the future! For instance, Saturday December 5th we will be hosting Pullman Fight Night: Round 2 in Gladish Gym. This is an amateur boxing event for local fighters put on by DSP and NSMH as a fundraiser for the fraternity as well as St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Doors will open at 6:00pm and ticket prices will be $10 in advance and $12 at the door. Currently we are still openly looking for sponsors/donors so if you know of any potentials please let us know as soon as possible! Thanks again for coming to the Tailgating Event!
